What Does a Dev Degree Intern Do?
Your Dev Degree journey is split into two integrated parts: learning and building.
Year 1: Developer Skills Training Path
In your first year, you’ll focus on Shopify’s Developer Skills Training Path, where you’ll learn:
- Core programming tools and technologies
- Software development methodologies
- Engineering best practices needed to succeed on production teams
At the same time, you’ll begin your studies at one of Shopify’s partner universities.
Transition to Engineering Teams
Depending on your university partner:
- York University students join a Shopify Engineering team after 4 months on the training path
- Carleton University students join after 8 months
Once placed, you’ll begin contributing to real Shopify products while continuing your Computer Science studies.

- Occasional in-person gatherings may occur, but all Shopify work and learning are remote
