About the Muslim Scholarship Fund Nigeria
The Muslim Scholarship Fund Nigeria (MSFN) was established in 1999 (originally known as the Muslim Education Trust Fund) in response to the severe economic challenges facing Nigeria, which were negatively impacting the educational and moral development of Muslim youths.
Nigeria’s economic realities make access to quality education difficult for many families. As a result, some Muslim youths have been vulnerable to external pressures that affect their educational and moral upbringing.
While the Federal Government’s Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme addresses financial challenges at the primary and junior secondary levels, significant gaps remain at the senior secondary and tertiary education levels.
The MSFN scholarship scheme was therefore created to support students at these critical stages of education.
MSFN Scholarship Requirements
To be eligible for the MSFN Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a Nigerian Muslim
- Be admitted to or currently enrolled in a recognised tertiary institution or senior secondary school
- Demonstrate active participation in volunteer services that benefit the Muslim community (e.g. teaching in coaching classes, assisting the elderly, or active involvement in MSS activities)
- Provide attestation from a Muslim leader in the community or school confirming volunteer involvement
Meet academic requirements:
- Undergraduates: Minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5.0 scale
- Secondary School Students: At least Credit passes in English Language and Mathematics
Target States
The scholarship currently targets students from the following Nigerian states:
Kwara, Kogi, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Edo, and Ekiti
When fully operational, the scheme is expected to extend coverage to all Muslim students across Nigeria.
